Machine learning, neural networks, graphs are building blocks or subsets of the research field of artificial intelligence. This computer science discipline is by no means new. Teaching machines, dolls and robots to think and act like humans is an old human dream. While efforts were initially limited to mechanics, the quest for artificial intelligence took on a new dimension with the emergence of electronic computing devices. The most recent success is the victory of a computer program based on a neural network over the world's best Go player (see also E-3 in-house news April 2016).
