NTT, Nvidia, and Red Hat
As part of the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) initiative, NTT and Red Hat, in collaboration with Nvidia and Fujitsu, have jointly developed a solution that extends the potential of real-time data analytics with AI at the edge. Using technologies developed by the IOWN Global Forum, the solution has been recognized as a proof of concept due to its practicality and use cases.
As AI, sensor technology and network innovation continue to grow in importance, AI analytics at the edge of the network is extremely important - especially as new data sources are added almost daily. However, the use of AI analytics can be complex and slow, leading to higher maintenance costs for software and hardware as new AI models and additional hardware are introduced. With the advancement of edge computing capabilities in more remote locations, AI analytics can be performed closer to the sensors, reducing latency and increasing bandwidth.
The solution consists of the IOWN All-Photonics Network and data pipeline acceleration technologies in the IOWN Data-Centric Infrastructure. NTT's accelerated data pipeline for AI utilizes Remote Direct Memory Access over APN to collect and process large amounts of sensor data. Red Hat OpenShift3 container orchestration technology provides flexibility to manage workloads in the accelerated data pipeline across remote data centers. NTT and Red Hat have successfully demonstrated that the solution can effectively reduce power consumption while providing low latency for real-time analytics with AI at the edge.
