Blue Yonder survey: Millions in AI-driven supply chains
A large majority of 84% stated that they had been affected by supply chain disruptions in the previous year. In the DACH region, as many as 97 percent of companies were confronted with disruptions, the most of any region worldwide. "Supply chain disruptions continue to be a major challenge for businesses," says Andrea Morgan-Vandome, Chief Innovation Officer at Blue Yonder. "Given that the majority of businesses worldwide have been affected by disruption in the last year, it's clear that now more than ever we need innovative technology solutions that provide businesses with the resilience they need to respond quickly and flexibly to disruptions on an ongoing basis."
The two most serious effects - delays for the customer and production stoppages - were identical in most regions. In the DACH region, however, staff shortages were seen as the main cause of supply chain disruption by 49% of respondents. In recent years, inflation and its business impact has been the main challenge for supply chain managers. "Companies are beginning to recognize the importance of AI and generative AI to their supply chains.
This technology is changing the way companies plan their offerings, respond to changes in demand and manage disruptions. If they really want to digitally transform their supply chain, they need to use AI. This is the only way for companies to stay ahead of the game and achieve their business goals," says Morgan-Vandome. Investments in the supply chain lead to efficiency gains in companies. In the DACH region, 52% of companies stated that they were able to increase their efficiency through higher investments.
