SAP add-on for decarbonization
One promising approach is Green Ledger - a method that transfers the principles of financial accounting to sustainability management and paves the way for the implementation of a well-founded and comprehensive sustainability strategy. For example, it enables companies to record, track and report the carbon footprint of their products based on processes along the entire value chain. Transparent documentation and proof of emission values enable companies to identify and manage the ecological impact of their processes.
Green data solution
In close cooperation with well-known customers who are already working towards the Green Ledger, a decisive step towards digital and "green" data transparency has been taken. Specifically, a solution has been developed and already implemented that records detailed information on products and their components simply and centrally in the SAP system itself. This means that the carbon footprint of products and even individual components can be displayed and evaluated centrally and at any time.
However, the challenge of CO2 reporting along the entire value chain within an SAP ERP system not only concerns pilot customers of this solution, but also many other companies. This is why NTT Data Business Solutions is currently working with other customers to develop the solution into a mature SAP add-on, the SDMS (Sustainability Data Manager Simplified). The add-on will be available for both SAP ECC and S/4 Hana at the beginning of 2025, regardless of the operating model. This will create added value for a broad customer base in terms of data transparency and reporting along the entire value chain.
Transformative linking
Digital tools enable data transparency and analysis, helping companies to turn findings into measures and track and minimize CO2 emissions. Intelligent technologies can be used to derive avoidance measures and optimize processes. The collaboration with the SAP consulting firm shows that sustainability not only promotes climate protection. With the right measures, it can also become a key driver for more innovation and efficiency - which brings not only ecological but also economic benefits.
