Bitkom Refugee Integration Initiative

Fleeing war and displacement, people come to
Germany in search of peace and prospects. Many are young, qualified and motivated to contribute; like the companies in the digital industry.

At the same time, demographic change is one reason why there is currently a shortage of around 43,000 qualified specialists in the German digital economy alone.

The digital economy is international and cosmopolitan. Programming languages are understandable all over the world. It accepts its responsibility in the face of social change brought about by digitization.

It can provide meaningful solutions in managing immigration, assisting with integration through digital education and offering career prospects.

Whether language courses, programming courses or internships - many companies in the digital economy such as IBM or Capgemini support refugees with their own projects. The aim is sustainable integration into society and low-hurdle access to the labor market.

In a project called Integreat, a mobile information platform for refugees is to be developed.

The aim is to provide refugees with relevant information at the right time and in the right place. The application is multilingual and also works offline.

The information varies from municipality to municipality and is maintained by local initiatives in a flexible content management system. In this way, refugees can obtain information about local contacts or events.

Behind Integreat is an initiative of students from the elite Finance and Information Management program at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Augsburg, the Augsburg-based association Tür an Tür e. V., the Chair of Business Information Systems at the Technical University of Munich, and other partners.
