This is also confirmed by the Suse surveys from the beginning of the year. According to this, 96 percent of the companies surveyed believe in competitive advantages through private clouds based on open source solutions.
However, 86 percent also said that a lack of skilled staff prevents them from investing further in this area. Open source solutions, however, provide companies with a high degree of flexibility and choice, as they can bypass vendor lock-in risks and thus benefit maximally from their cloud investments.
So our task as an industry is to ensure that decision-makers can enjoy all the benefits of open source solutions. To do that, we have to guarantee that there are enough skilled workers.
This is the only way to drive this development forward. That is why Suse introduced a new OpenStack training course with the corresponding certification at the OpenStack Summit in Austin. With this, we want to support the spread of OpenStack knowledge and meet the growing demand.
This year, for example, we are creating 110 new positions for IT specialists at our company, which is one of the top 100 employers for IT graduates in Germany according to the Graduate Barometer 2016.
Because an exciting future with many career opportunities awaits open source experts as OpenStack and cloud solutions continue to grow exponentially.
