Digitization competence must be part of the management
Companies with a CIO in the management team have an above-average Industrie 4.0 maturity level. This is a key finding of the Industrie 4.0 Barometer 2020, published by management and IT consultancy MHP in collaboration with Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich.
More than 200 experts, in particular executives from IT and specialist departments, from companies in various industries in the DACH region took part in the survey, which was conducted for the third time last year. The focus this time was on cloud services and 5G technology.
Compared with the previous year, there was a positive trend in 2020 in terms of both technology use and IT infrastructures. However, the really big advances did not materialize. The changing course of the pandemic poses a challenge, particularly for the automotive industry, which is currently facing the greatest upheaval in its history due to new drive technologies and mobility concepts.
The participants see great potential for the digitization of industrial production in both cloud services and 5G technology. Both can form the basis for cross-divisional structures and strategies. However, the use of these technologies is still in its infancy.
