Hot summer, stormy autumn

There has never been a dull moment in the world of SAP licenses in the past decade. Currently, however, a veritable flood of innovations is rolling in. This includes a completely new licensing model for indirect use with an associated (not yet available) measurement method from SAP.

Furthermore, SAP's attempt to establish authorization-based user licensing, with an equally unavailable measurement method, SAP's more or less gentle compulsion to migrate to S/4 Hana, including the migration of license agreements, or the discontinuation of some of SAP's on-premise solutions in favor of numerous new SAP cloud solutions. Increased "extended audits" by SAP are also to be expected.

It is also an exciting time for us as a solution provider, because we want to give our customers the tools to deal with the challenges as quickly as possible.

For example, we were able to provide powerful reporting on the new indirect usage license metric only a few days after the relevant SAP guidance was published.

This makes it possible to assess whether the new licensing model is even worth considering or whether the SAP customer might be better off with the old model after all.

By no means should the impression be conveyed here that this is all and always possible immediately at the push of a button. Even with our solution, for example, an analysis of the RFC data traffic of the SAP systems with the outside world takes time and requires manual rework - but without solution support, such a task is simply not possible.

For example, we were able to "rediscover" previously undocumented interfaces to third-party systems for one of our customers during such an interface analysis, with over one million data records, and thus decisively help to be immune to surprises during the upcoming SAP audit.
