Digitization without IT?
61 percent of managers see the IT department's pioneering role in the strategic management of technologies dwindling. According to a study by VMware, more and more specialist departments are making technological decisions and thus driving innovation.
The decentralization of IT brings numerous business benefits, according to the key findings of the global study based on a survey of IT decision-makers and department heads: New products and services can be brought to market faster (59 percent), companies have more freedom to drive innovation (58 percent) and it is easier to respond to changing market conditions (56 percent).
The fact that other areas besides the IT department also claim responsibility for IT and technology resources has a positive impact on personnel development: employee satisfaction is increased (55 percent) and young talent can be recruited more easily (54 percent).
However, this development is also accompanied by numerous challenges. The cost of IT services is doubling (55 percent).
In addition, companies are confronted with a lack of clarity regarding responsibility and accountability for IT resources (53%) and security-critical solutions are increasingly being purchased (49%).
