Seamless SAP-MS integration

As part of the standardization of business processes and systems as part of the customer's corporate strategy, SAP for Retail based on SAP ERP 6.0 was introduced as the central retail system through which the orders of the country subsidiaries are collected.

The customer uses the SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report generation system and the SQL Server Analysis Services for multidimensional data storage for management reporting in order management.

For example, it analyzes which articles are required in the individual national companies, which manufacturers are commissioned with production in the respective regions, whether they meet the quality standards and what the delivery reliability is like.

The challenge was to integrate data from SAP for Retail into Microsoft SQL Server quickly, reliably and automatically.

Big data transfer from SAP

The customer opted for the Xtract IS solution for the seamless integration of SAP and Microsoft SQL Server: a common scenario for many companies.

The two components Table for the direct transfer of mass data from SAP tables and DeltaQ for incremental loading were ideal for the customer. DeltaQ can be used to control the SAP ERP extractor API and thus utilize the functionality with which BW systems also ensure their data supply from the production system.

The customer was won over by the high degree of maturity of our solution, the ease of use and an attractive price-performance ratio. Depending on the component and use case, some settings have to be made in the SAP system.

"As integration specialists, we are always happy to help"

says Peter Wohlfarth, authorized signatory at Theobald Software.

"The same also applies to issues relating to going live and further developments"

adds Stefan Reuss, Managing Director of Theobald Software.

In a first step, the SAP ERP systems of three regions were connected. To ensure that the data transfer worked, the business departments were given access to the SAP system and randomly viewed orders. A check was then carried out to ensure that the data also arrived in the reporting system.

"This ensured that no information was lost. The customer did not require any further external support after the implementation phase - an important aspect in terms of cost efficiency"

says Reuss.

Reuss quote

Integration of all regions

Over the next few months, all regions were integrated step by step. The aim was to make all order data from all 120 countries available in MS SQL Server.

The fast, reliable availability of relevant data is important in order to be able to make business decisions, especially with regard to quality and costs.

If there are deviations, e.g. in meeting delivery deadlines or quality requirements, it must be possible to react immediately. By using Xtract IS, the customer was able to implement a standardized, integrated database that enables reliable data access on a daily basis.
