Business climate reaches two-year high

The business climate in the digital industry is currently showing a strong improvement and has climbed to its highest level in two years. In March, the index for the current business situation rose by 4.5 points to 31.9 points. Business expectations for the next six months rose even more sharply - up 11.0 points to 21.2.

The Bitkom-ifo Digital Index, which is calculated from the assessment of the business situation and business expectations, rose significantly by 7.8 points to 26.5 points compared with the previous month. The last time the digital index was higher was in May 2019. "While the third wave of infections is keeping Germany in suspense, there is great confidence in the digital industry. With the acceleration of the vaccination campaign and the outlook for falling infection figures, Bitkom companies are expecting strong economic stimulus", says Bitkom President Achim Berg.

"Business is currently better than at any time during the Corona crisis. The assessment of the business situation has increased almost across the board over the past twelve months. With their solutions, Bitkom companies are helping other industries, private consumers and administrations to get through the crisis better. Demand is correspondingly stable despite the pandemic-related restrictions."The ifo business climate rose by 8.5 points to 11.2. The business situation improved by 5.6 to 12.0 points.
